Condition set on his obedience: THE HONOR SHALL NOT BE YOURS
By whose hand Sisera fell: A WOMAN - JAEL WITH A TENT PEG
The subject was called by Deborah the prophetess with the word of the LORD: he was to draw ten thousand men to Mount Tabor, and the LORD would draw out Sisera, captain of Jabin's army, with his chariots to the river Kishon.
The subject answered that he would go only if Deborah went with him. She consented, but declared the road he took would yield him no honor, for the LORD would sell Sisera into the hand of a woman.
At the word of Deborah the subject went down from Tabor with his ten thousand. The LORD routed Sisera and all his chariots before him; Sisera fled on foot, and not a man of the enemy host was left.
Sisera came to the tent of Jael, who gave him milk, covered him, and while he slept drove a tent peg through his temple. When the subject pursued, she showed him the fallen captain, and the word of the prophetess was fulfilled.
The subject and Deborah sang on that day of the triumph of the LORD, and the land had rest forty years. Later witnesses number the subject among those who through faith conquered kingdoms and were made strong out of weakness.
EYES ONLYRestricted // Sacred Record
- Obedience mixed with hesitation still forfeits some of the honor.
- The battle and its outcome belong to the LORD, not to us.
- God can win His victory through means we would never choose.
