How he took the throne: HE STRUCK DOWN NADAB AND KILLED ALL THE HOUSE OF JEROBOAM

The word of the LORD against him: I WILL SWEEP AWAY BAASHA AND HIS HOUSE

Remarks:

The subject, son of Ahijah of the tribe of Issachar, conspired against Nadab son of Jeroboam while Israel besieged Gibbethon, struck him down, and reigned in his place at Tirzah.

As soon as he was king, he killed all the house of Jeroboam, leaving none that breathed, fulfilling the word the LORD had spoken by Ahijah the prophet against that sinful line.

Yet the subject did not turn from the sins of Jeroboam. He walked in the same idolatry and made Israel to sin, and there was war between him and Asa king of Judah all their days.

He fortified Ramah to blockade Judah, until Asa hired Ben-hadad of Syria to break the alliance, and the subject was forced to withdraw and leave his work unfinished.

The word of the LORD came to Jehu son of Hanani against him: because he had walked in the way of Jeroboam though he had been raised up from the dust, his house would be swept away like the house he destroyed.
