His cry before the vast army of Zerah: LORD, THERE IS NONE LIKE YOU TO HELP
The prophet's rebuke in his later years: THE EYES OF THE LORD RANGE THROUGH THE EARTH
The subject, king of Judah, did what was good and right in the eyes of the LORD. He removed the foreign altars and high places, broke down the pillars, cut down the idols, and commanded Judah to seek the God of their fathers.
When Zerah the Cushite came against him with a vast army, the subject cried out that the LORD alone could help between the mighty and the weak, and rested on Him. The LORD struck down the enemy, and Judah carried off great spoil.
The prophet Azariah met him with the word that the LORD was with them while they were with Him, and would be found if they sought Him. Encouraged, the subject led the people to renew their covenant with the LORD.
But in his later years, threatened by Baasha of Israel, the subject took silver and gold from the temple and hired the king of Syria as an ally, instead of relying on the LORD who had delivered him before.
The seer Hanani rebuked him, saying the eyes of the LORD run through the earth to strengthen those whose heart is His, and that he had done foolishly. The subject was angry, and in his last years, diseased in his feet, he sought the physicians and not the LORD.
