The two sons she bore in Egypt: MANASSEH AND EPHRAIM
Given her by Pharaoh in marriage: JOSEPH, THE SAVIOR OF EGYPT
The subject, daughter of Potiphera priest of On, was given in marriage to Joseph by Pharaoh when Joseph was raised to rule over Egypt. A foreign woman, she was joined to the son of Jacob in the land of his exile.
Before the years of famine came, she bore Joseph two sons. The firstborn he named Manasseh, for God had made him forget his hardship, and the second Ephraim, for God had made him fruitful in the land of his affliction.
Through her sons the house of Joseph became two tribes in Israel. Jacob, blessing the boys, set Ephraim before Manasseh, and both were counted among the tribes as his own.
The subject herself speaks no recorded word, yet her sons inherited a double portion, and the name of Ephraim would one day stand for the whole northern kingdom.
An Egyptian woman was woven quietly into the twelve tribes, a sign that the people of God were being gathered even in a foreign land.
