What he knew at first, and only in part: ONLY THE BAPTISM OF JOHN
How Paul described their shared labor: I PLANTED, APOLLOS WATERED, GOD GAVE GROWTH
The subject was a Jew of Alexandria, an eloquent man and mighty in the Scriptures. He came to Ephesus fervent in spirit, teaching accurately the things concerning Jesus, though he knew only the baptism of John.
When Priscilla and Aquila heard him speaking boldly in the synagogue, they took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately, and he received their teaching gladly.
Wishing to cross to Achaia, he was encouraged by the brothers, who wrote to the disciples to welcome him. On arrival he greatly helped those who had believed through grace.
For he powerfully refuted the Jews in public, showing by the Scriptures that the Christ was Jesus, and strengthened the church at Corinth by his teaching.
At Corinth some began to say, I follow Paul, and others, I follow Apollos. But Paul wrote that they were only servants: he had planted, the subject had watered, and God alone had given the growth.
EYES ONLYRestricted // Sacred Record
- Even the gifted and eloquent can grow by humbly receiving deeper teaching.
- One servant plants and another waters, but God alone gives the growth.
- Loyalty belongs to Christ, not to the teachers who merely serve Him.
