How Scripture sums up his reign: HE SOLD HIMSELF TO DO EVIL
The mercy shown when he humbled himself: THE DISASTER DELAYED TO HIS SON'S DAYS
The subject, son of Omri, reigned over Israel in Samaria and did more evil than all the kings before him. He married Jezebel of Sidon, served and worshiped Baal, and built him a temple and an altar in Samaria.
Elijah announced a drought as judgment, and after three years called Israel to Mount Carmel, where the LORD answered by fire and the prophets of Baal were shown to be nothing. Yet the subject's heart was not turned.
When Naboth would not sell his vineyard, the subject sulked, and Jezebel had Naboth falsely accused and stoned to seize it. Elijah met him with a word of doom on his house and the promise that dogs would lick his blood.
At this the subject tore his clothes, put on sackcloth, and humbled himself, so the LORD delayed the disaster to the days of his son. Still he did not truly forsake his idols.
Going up to battle at Ramoth-gilead against the counsel of the prophet Micaiah, the subject disguised himself, but a random arrow struck him between the joints of his armor, and he died. They washed his chariot, and the dogs licked up his blood, as the LORD had said.

- To sell yourself to evil is to hand another the reins of your soul.
- A moment of humbling can delay judgment, but only repentance removes it.
- No disguise on the battlefield can hide a man from the aim of God.
