What she kept David from: AVENGING HIMSELF WITH HIS OWN HAND
What became of her husband Nabal: THE LORD STRUCK HIM, AND HE DIED
The subject was a woman of good sense and beauty, married to Nabal, a harsh and foolish man of great wealth in Carmel.
When Nabal insulted David and his men, who had guarded his flocks, David set out with armed men to destroy the household. A servant warned the subject, who acted quickly.
She rode out with a generous gift and, meeting David on the road, humbly took the blame, urged him not to stain himself with needless bloodshed, and reminded him the LORD would establish his house.
David blessed her discretion, saying that the LORD had sent her to keep him from avenging himself with his own hand, and he received her gift and turned back.
When Nabal died shortly after, struck by the LORD, David sent for the subject, and she became his wife, a woman remembered for wisdom that turned away wrath.
