What she was doing when Elijah found her: GATHERING STICKS FOR A LAST MEAL
Her confession when her son was raised: NOW I KNOW THE WORD OF THE LORD IS TRUTH
In the years of drought the LORD sent Elijah to Zarephath in Sidon, to a widow whom He had commanded to feed him. He found her gathering sticks, and asked for water and a morsel of bread.
She answered that she had only a handful of flour in a jar and a little oil, and was gathering sticks to make a last meal for herself and her son before they died.
Elijah told her not to fear, but to make him a small cake first, then for herself and her son, for the LORD promised that the jar of flour would not be spent and the jug of oil would not fail until the day rain came again. She did as he said, and she, her household, and the prophet ate for many days, and the flour and oil did not run out.
Later her son fell ill and stopped breathing, and she cried out in anguish. Elijah took the boy, laid him on his own bed, and prayed, stretching himself over the child three times, and the LORD gave the boy's life back to him.
Elijah brought him down alive to his mother, and she said, Now I know that you are a man of God, and that the word of the LORD in your mouth is truth. Long after, the Lord Jesus recalled her as a Gentile shown mercy in a time of famine.
