What the Lord told him he needed: TO BE BORN OF WATER AND THE SPIRIT
What he brought for the burial: MYRRH AND ALOES, ABOUT A HUNDRED POUNDS
The subject, a Pharisee and a ruler of the Jews, came to Jesus by night, acknowledging him a teacher come from God because of the signs he did.
Jesus told him that unless one is born again, born of water and the Spirit, he cannot see or enter the kingdom of God. The subject wondered how such things could be.
In that conversation came the words that God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
Later, when the council sought to condemn Jesus without a hearing, the subject spoke up, asking whether their law judged a man before it heard him.
After the crucifixion the subject came with Joseph of Arimathea, bringing a great weight of myrrh and aloes, and helped bury the body of Jesus, the secret disciple now openly honoring his Lord.
