The parable he shouted from Mount Gerizim: THE TREES WENT OUT TO ANOINT A KING
How his curse came true: FIRE FROM ABIMELECH AND SHECHEM CONSUMED EACH OTHER
The subject was the youngest of Gideon's seventy sons. When his half-brother Abimelech hired worthless men and murdered all his brothers on one stone to seize power, the subject alone escaped by hiding.
As Abimelech was being made king at Shechem, the subject stood on top of Mount Gerizim and cried out to the men of the city a parable.
He told how the trees went out to anoint a king; the olive, the fig, and the vine each refused to give up their useful fruit, but the worthless bramble agreed to reign, threatening to send out fire if they did not take shelter in it.
He applied the parable: if they had dealt honorably with Gideon's house, let them rejoice in Abimelech; but if not, let fire come out from Abimelech and devour the men of Shechem, and fire come from Shechem and devour Abimelech.
Then the subject fled and lived in hiding. In time God repaid the wickedness of Abimelech and the men of Shechem, who turned on each other and destroyed one another, and the curse the subject had spoken was fulfilled.
