His word before Michmash: NOTHING CAN HINDER THE LORD FROM SAVING BY MANY OR BY FEW
His covenant with David: HE LOVED HIM AS HIS OWN SOUL
The subject, son of King Saul, climbed with only his armor-bearer against a Philistine garrison at Michmash, saying nothing could hinder the LORD from saving by many or by few. The LORD gave a great victory that day.
When David slew Goliath, the soul of the subject was knit to David's, and he loved him as his own soul, making a covenant with him and giving him his robe and armor.
Though heir to the throne, the subject recognized that the LORD had chosen David, and defended him against the murderous jealousy of his father Saul, warning David to flee.
The two renewed their covenant, and the subject said that David would be king and he would be next to him. They parted with weeping, and Jonathan strengthened David's hand in God.
The subject fell in battle alongside his father and brothers at Mount Gilboa. David lamented him bitterly, calling his love wonderful, and kept covenant with his house.
