The subject was born to aged parents after an angel foretold his birth to a priest named Zechariah. He was to be filled with the Spirit from birth and go before the Lord in the spirit and power of Elijah.
The subject appeared in the wilderness in camel's hair, eating locusts and wild honey, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. Crowds came out to the Jordan to be baptized.
The subject pointed away from himself, saying he must decrease. Seeing Jesus, he declared, Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world, and baptized him as the Spirit descended like a dove.
