Remarks:

The subject was the son of Seth and grandson of Adam, born after Seth had been given in the place of murdered Abel. His name means mortal man, a reminder of the frailty of the race after the fall.

In his days, the record says, men began to call upon the name of the LORD, a first public worship of God set against the line of Cain that had turned away.

He fathered Kenan at ninety and afterward had other sons and daughters through the long years of the ancient world.

The subject lived nine hundred and five years and died, a quiet link in the chain from Adam through Seth toward Noah.

He is named in the genealogies that run down to Abraham and at last to the Christ, one of the generations through whom the worship of the true God was kept alive.
