His report at Kadesh: WE ARE WELL ABLE TO OVERCOME IT
His request at eighty-five: GIVE ME THIS HILL COUNTRY
The subject was one of the twelve sent to spy out Canaan. Ten brought back a fearful report of giants and fortified cities, but the subject stilled the people and said, Let us go up at once and possess it, for we are well able.
When the congregation rebelled and sought to stone him and Joshua, the glory of the LORD appeared. Because the subject had a different spirit and wholly followed the LORD, he was spared the sentence of death in the wilderness.
Of all who came out of Egypt, only the subject and Joshua were permitted to enter the promised land, the rest falling in the desert over forty years.
At the age of eighty-five, his strength undiminished, the subject came to Joshua and claimed the hill country the LORD had promised him. He said he was as strong for war as on the day he was sent.
The subject drove out the Anakim from Hebron and took it as his inheritance. He is remembered as one who wholly followed the LORD his God.
