The subject, son of Uri and grandson of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, was called by name by the LORD to lead the making of the tabernacle and all its furnishings.
He is the first person in Scripture said to be filled with the Spirit of God, with skill, intelligence, knowledge, and craftsmanship, to work in gold, silver, and bronze, to cut stones and carve wood.
With Oholiab and other gifted workers, he made the ark of the covenant, the table, the lampstand, the altars, the curtains, and the priestly garments, exactly according to the pattern God had shown Moses.
The LORD also gave him the ability to teach, so that he could train and direct the other craftsmen in the sacred work.
By his Spirit-given skill the dwelling place of God among His people was completed, a reminder that God gifts and calls artisans and workers, and not only priests and prophets, for His service.
