How his guilt compared with his father's: HE INCREASED IT, AND DID NOT HUMBLE HIMSELF
How his brief reign ended: HIS OWN SERVANTS CONSPIRED AND KILLED HIM
The subject became king of Judah at twenty-two, son of Manasseh, who in his old age had humbled himself and turned back to the LORD after great sin.
But the subject did evil in the eyes of the LORD as his father had done in his worst years. He sacrificed to all the idols his father had made and served them.
Unlike Manasseh, who humbled himself before the God of his fathers, the subject did not humble himself before the LORD, but increased his guilt.
His servants conspired against him and killed him in his own house, ending his reign after only two years.
The people of the land struck down the conspirators and made his young son Josiah king in his place, and it was Josiah who would turn wholeheartedly to the LORD and lead Judah's last great reform.
EYES ONLYRestricted // Sacred Record
- A father's example of sin can be copied while his repentance is ignored.
- Refusing to humble oneself before God only increases one's guilt.
- The Lord can raise up a faithful son from an unfaithful father's house.
