What his crafty friend Jonadab devised: A FEIGNED ILLNESS TO GET TAMAR ALONE
How Absalom finally struck him down: WHEN HIS HEART WAS MERRY WITH WINE
The subject was David's firstborn son, heir apparent to the throne, who became sick with desire for his beautiful half-sister Tamar, the sister of Absalom.
His shrewd cousin Jonadab counseled him to pretend to be ill and ask the king to send Tamar to feed him, and so he lured her into his chamber.
There he overpowered and violated her against her pleading, and afterward hated her, casting her out in shame, while his father David, though angry, took no action against him.
Absalom said nothing to the subject, good or bad, but hated him for the disgrace of his sister, and bided his time for two full years.
At his sheepshearing feast Absalom invited all the king's sons, and when the subject's heart was merry with wine, Absalom's servants struck him down at their master's command, avenging Tamar, and setting in motion the sorrows that would fall upon David's house.
