What he begged to do to the sleeping Saul: LET ME PIN HIM TO THE GROUND WITH THE SPEAR
What he did when a giant nearly killed David: STRUCK THE PHILISTINE DOWN AND SAVED THE KING
The subject was a son of David's sister Zeruiah and the brother of Joab and Asahel, a fierce and valiant warrior chief among David's mighty men, who once killed three hundred with his spear.
When David crept into Saul's camp by night, the subject went with him and offered to pin the sleeping king to the ground with one thrust of the spear; but David forbade him to harm the LORD's anointed.
He shared in many of David's battles and hardships, quick to defend the king and quick to avenge, sometimes too fiercely, so that David restrained him and the sons of Zeruiah more than once.
In a battle with the Philistines, when David grew weary and a giant named Ishbi-benob was about to kill him, the subject came to his aid and struck the giant down, saving the king's life.
For his devotion he was honored as chief of the mighty men, a warrior whose loyalty to David never failed, though his zeal often needed the king's steadying hand.
