Most people skip the genealogies in Scripture. Long lists of names, generations stacked on generations - they feel like filler, like the part you skim to get to the story.
But the genealogies are the story.
They are not interruptions. They are evidence of God's faithfulness woven through time.
God is an intentional God. Nothing escapes His attention. Nothing is too small for His care.
"You have kept count of my tossings; put my tears in your bottle. Are they not in your book?"
Think about that. God stores your tears. Every moment of grief, every night of weeping, every sorrow that felt unbearable - He collects them. He records them. He holds them.
If God is this attentive to tears - to the invisible, private moments of pain that no one else sees - how much more does He keep record of names across generations?
The same God who numbers your tears numbers your days, records your name, and weaves your life into His eternal plan.
"If God records tears, how much more does He record names?"
Think about what it means that God kept record of names across generations.
Not just the famous ones. Not just the kings and prophets. But the fathers and mothers, the forgotten and the ordinary.
The genealogies tell you something about God's character: He is intentional. He does not lose track. He does not forget. Every name matters because every person is part of the unfolding plan.
"The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you."
If God keeps record of names, how much more does He keep record of you?
The promise God made to Abraham was not fulfilled in Abraham's lifetime. Or Isaac's. Or Jacob's. Or David's.
It took generations.
But God did not forget the promise. He carried it forward - through slavery in Egypt, through exile in Babylon, through centuries of silence - until the fullness of time when Jesus was born.
The genealogies show that God's faithfulness outlasts human lifespans. What He promises, He delivers - even if it takes a thousand years.
"Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations."
Look at the line from Abraham to Jesus. Forty-two generations (Matthew 1:17).
In those generations you find:
"The thread is stained with human failure - yet God never breaks it."
The thread is not clean. It is stained with human failure - and yet God never breaks it.
This is the genius of genealogy: it shows that God works through messy, broken, sinful people to accomplish His perfect plan.

HE DOES NOT LOSE TRACK
The God of Abraham is the God of Isaac. The God of Isaac is the God of Jacob. The God of Jacob is the God of Joseph, of Moses, of David, of Daniel, of Mary, of you.
He does not change. He is not confined to one era, one people, one moment. He is God across all time.
"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever."
When you read the genealogies, you are seeing the long obedience of God - His commitment to a promise across centuries, across empires, across the rise and fall of nations.
He does not abandon His people. He does not forget His word. What He begins, He finishes.
If God kept such careful record of names in the past, He is keeping record of you now.
Your name is not lost in history. You are not a forgotten generation. You are part of the unfolding story of redemption.
"But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession."
"And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life."
God keeps a book. Your name is either in it or it is not.
The genealogies remind you: God cares about names. God cares about people. God cares about you.
Do not skip the genealogies. They are not filler. They are proof.
When you feel forgotten, remember the genealogies. God remembered every single name across forty-two generations to bring Jesus into the world.
He has not forgotten you.
