Purity of heart is the ability to will one thing. To desire God without division. To seek Him not as a means, but as the end.
"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God." - Matthew 5:8
Purity is not first about outward restraint, but inward direction-what the heart chooses to behold.
ALONE
An undivided heart desires one treasure above all
The heart becomes what it beholds. Its condition mirrors its gaze.
"As a man thinks in his heart, so is he." - Proverbs 23:7
"Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." - Matthew 6:21
What the heart repeatedly looks upon, it slowly loves. What it loves, it begins to resemble.
Sustained attention shapes the soul
If the heart beholds worthless things, its sensitivity to God grows dull.
"They exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images…" - Romans 1:23
"My people have committed two evils: they have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, and hewed out cisterns that can hold no water." - Jeremiah 2:13

- → Spiritual sensitivity weakens
- → Affections become shallow
- → Soul becomes hollow
- → Broken cisterns that hold nothing
- → Heart awakens to glory
- → Transformed into His image
- → Deep spiritual formation
- → Soul becomes radiant
- → Living water that satisfies
Empty sights hollow the soul. Shallow affections weaken spiritual depth.
But when the heart beholds the priceless Christ-when Jesus becomes its chief vision-everything changes.
"We all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image." - 2 Corinthians 3:18
"I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord." - Philippians 3:8
Beholding is not passive. It is formative.
To delight in the dealings of God is to welcome His discipline, His shaping, His fire.
"My son, do not despise the Lord's discipline… for the Lord disciplines the one He loves." - Hebrews 12:5–6
"He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver." - Malachi 3:3
The pure heart does not flee God's hand-it trusts it.
The refiner keeps watch until He sees His reflection
IS CONFORMED TO CHRIST
"Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart." - Psalm 37:4
"Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me." - Psalm 51:10
Purity is not perfection. It is direction. A heart set on one thing-to see Him, to know Him, to become like Him.
The pure heart sees God not because it is spotless, but because it is looking.
