One way we guard our hearts is by ensuring the Word of God is constantly flowing through our inner man.
What do I mean by that?
I mean meditation, the steady, daily, moment-to-moment rehearsing of His truth.
Just like the human heart thrives on the continuous flow of blood, our spiritual heart requires a continuous flow of the Word. When the flow is steady, we stay alive, nourished, and strengthened.
But anything that obstructs that flow-distractions, sin, worry, pride, spiritual laziness-acts like a blockage in an artery.
And just as physical blockages lead to ischemia, pain, and eventually death, blockages in the flow of God's Word lead to spiritual numbness, and if they are left long enough, spiritual death.
So guard the flow. Keep the Word circulating. Meditate day and night. Let Scripture oxygenate your soul.
"My son, give attention to my words, for they are life to those who find them and health to their whole body." - Proverbs 4:20-22
The Word must circulate continuously-like blood through the body.
Stop the flow, and spiritual death follows.
