Why he named his son Noah: THIS ONE SHALL BRING US RELIEF
From what he longed for rest: THE PAINFUL TOIL OF OUR HANDS
The subject was the son of Methuselah and a descendant of Seth, standing in the godly line that ran toward the flood. He is not the Lamech of Cain's line who boasted of vengeance, but a man who looked for comfort from God.
At the age of a hundred and eighty-two he fathered a son and named him Noah, meaning rest or relief.
He said of the child, This one shall bring us relief from our work and from the painful toil of our hands, because of the ground that the LORD has cursed, a longing that the curse might one day be lifted.
The subject lived seven hundred and seventy-seven years and had other sons and daughters, dying a few years before the flood came upon the earth.
His son Noah would indeed become the one through whom the LORD preserved the human race and renewed the earth, and the line ran on through him to Abraham and at last to the Christ.
